Cbus Super Fund's Tech Chief Patrick Vartuli Steps Down
Patrick Vartuli just announced he's leaving his gig as group head of technology at Cbus Super. He posted about it on LinkedIn last week. Two years in, and he's out.
Why jump ship after such a short stint? That's the question everyone's asking. Super funds aren't exactly the sexiest place to build a career in tech, and the role probably involved plenty of legacy systems, compliance headaches, and board meetings. Getting people to modernize infrastructure at a fund that manages billions isn't a walk in the park.
Cbus Super hasn't said much about finding a replacement or what's next for their tech strategy. Vartuli's exit follows the usual pattern we see in fintech and finance—good people get hired to fix things, they realize how deep the problems go, and they decide life's too short to spend it arguing about IT budgets. The fund will need to figure out whether they want to keep pushing modernization or just maintain the status quo.
