Doerr: AI Is Actually Underhyped, Not Overhyped

John Doerr has written checks to companies that basically built the web as we know it. Amazon. Google. So when he says AI is being undersold right now, you should probably listen. He's calling it the biggest tsunami of innovation he's tracked in his entire career, and he's not using that language lightly.

Here's the thing though. Everyone talks about AI constantly. We're drowning in AI announcements. So how can something this visible actually be underhyped? Because most people are still thinking about it wrong. They see the chatbots and the image generators and they think that's the ceiling. Doerr sees something different — a fundamental shift in how we build software, how we solve problems, how entire industries will reorganize themselves around these tools.

The real question is whether the skeptics are right to pump the brakes, or if Doerr has just seen this movie play out enough times to know how it ends. He's been right before. That usually counts for something.
